Bengaluru: B.H Anil Kumar, who took charge as the Commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), is super active on the micro-blogging platform Twitter. In the last ten days, he has posted at least 25 tweets, mostly on his daily routine or announcing some important developments.
Thanks to the active engagement on Twitter, the number of followers has shot up from 20,000 to nearly 30,000 in a matter of two weeks. Sources in the BBMP said that he has hired a separate team to maintain his social media handles including Facebook.
Other than the Twitter account of BBMP Commissioner, no official handles of BMTC, BWSSB or BMRCL is active on Twitter, although people continue to post complaints and suggestions to different government agencies of Bengaluru. On the other hand, the social media accounts of elected representatives are very active.
Anil Kumar, while taking charge as the BBMP Commissioner, had promised to provide a clean, transparent and responsive administration. Each year, the corporation takes up projects worth Rs 10,000 crore. The BBMP has always been criticized for mishandling of waste management and poor quality of roads etc.
On September 12, the Commissioner had announced the preparation of Bengaluru Vision Document 2050 by creating a separate City Planning Wing.
