37 sharp weapons, ganja, mobile phones seized from Bengaluru’s Central Jail

Bengaluru: A surprise raid on the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in the outskirts of Bengaluru led to the seizure of 37 knives and sharp weapons, a large quantity of ganja, five ganja smoking pipes, mobile phones etc.

The raid, a first such after a long time, was conducted on Wednesday morning by a team of police personnel attached to the Central Crime Branch (CCB). Joint Commissioner Sandeep Patil led the three-hour-long search operation.

It’s learnt that police raided the Central Jail based on complaints that several people were getting threat calls from the criminals lodged inside the jail. The police are also expected to investigate how the banned materials reached inside the cells.

During the search, all the blocks inside the prison were searched simultaneously. This is also Karnataka’s biggest prison, which is home to over 4,000 prisoners.
