More than 9,000 runners to participate in Bengaluru Marathon



Bengaluru: Around 9,000 athletes are expected to participate in the 6th edition of Bengaluru Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, October 13. The annual competition is organised by real-estate developer Shriram Properties.

The marathon will be flagged off at Sree Kanteerava Stadium at 4 am and is expected to conclude at 11 am.

There are three race categories: full marathon (42.195-km), half marathon (21.1-km) and hope run (5-km). While around 1,000 athletes have given their names for the full marathon, 6,000 runners have registered for the half marathon. The 5k Hope Run will see 2,000 people competing against each other.

“After completing 5 successful years of the event, we are all geared up to make this 6th edition of Sriram properties Bengaluru marathon, better and bigger this year. With Bengaluru boasting the highest number of marathoners in the country, we now have a world-class Full marathon, Half marathon and 5K event. We believe this event will go a long way in further promoting running in the city and encourage a fit and healthy lifestyle,” the organisers said.

Heptathlon Champion Reeth Abraham is the brand ambassador of the event.

The winners will take the cash award of Rs 40,000 (each for the male and female winner) while the winners of half marathon get cash prizes of Rs 25,000.

Traffic advisory:
Movements of vehicles in the Central Bengaluru including Kasturba Road, MR Road, Dickenson Road, Cubbon Road, Kamaraj Raod, Queens Road, Raj Bhavan Road and Vittal Mallya road etc may be affected as traffic police have introduced some changes. Parking of vehicles is also banned on some stretches.
